A crackdown on medical stores in the district led to the registration of an FIR against Rampal Medical Store in Verka near here on Wednesday. The action was taken by a medical team, led by Drug Control Officer Sukhdeep Singh, who inspected the store and found narcotic drugs, including 174 capsules of pregabalin 300 milligram, 19 injections of superspas, and nine injections of anafortone.
The inspection was carried out as per the instructions of Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney, who had earlier ordered all SDMs, Tehsildars, and Drug Control Officers to inspect drug shops in their respective areas. The move is part of the war launched by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann against drugs, said Sukhdeep Singh.
In addition to the inspection in Verka, teams of the Health Department also inspected stores in Baba Bakala Sahib, led by Naib Tehsildar Raminder Singh and Naib Tehsildar Harish Kumar. However, no suspicious medicines were found in Baba Bakala Sahib.
Deputy Commissioner Sawhney said the checking of medicine shops would continue, and a police case would be registered against any medical store found in possession of psychotropic medicines, which have been banned.
