Health Minister inspects govt hospitals in Amritsar

State Health and Family Welfare Minister Chetan Singh Jauramajra said at least 12 mohalla clinics would be made operational in Amritsar from August 15 where primary health services would be provided to patients.

Jauramajra was here to monitor the functioning of the health services in government-run hospitals and the shortcomings.

Earlier, accompanied by Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu, he paid obeisance at the Golden Temple and the Durgiana Mandir.

Every mohalla clinic will have one medical officer, pharmacist, clinic assistant and helping staff. The clinics will provide services for common ailments, first-aid for injuries and dressing of minor wounds. The patients will be registered and their records will be also be compiled. He visited the Civil Hospital, dental hospital and Guru Nanak Dev Hospital along with the medical officials concerned, including Civil Surgeon Dr Charanjit Singh, to check the availability of medical aid, sanitation and facilities being provided to the patients, listened to their grievances and assured to redress them shortly. He also held meeting with the officials to know about the shortage of medical staff.

While visiting the upcoming mohalla clinic at Pink Plaza, he said over 75 mohalla clinics would start functioning in the state from August 15.

“Every mohalla clinic will have one medical officer, pharmacist, clinic assistant and helping staff. The patients will get aid for common ailments, first-aid, dressing and other facilities at one place. The patients will be registered here and their records will be compiled through the IT mode,” he said.

On non-availability of generic medicines at subsidised rates in government-run health centres, he recommended the doctors to prescribe the salt only so that the patients could buy subsidised medicines. He, however, assured the doctors that he would make all efforts to ensure availability of medicines at the earliest. He also directed the Government Medical College Principal, Dr Rajiv Devgan, to ensure public display of available medicines.

Others present on the occasion included MLA Dr Ajay Gupta, MD, Punjab Health System Corporation, Neelima, Director, Health, Dr Ranjit Singh, Assistant Civil Surgeon Dr Amarjit Singh and Senior Medical Officer Dr Raju Chauhan.

In Tarn Taran, Jauramajra said the state government had set aside about Rs 5,000 crore in this year’s Budget to provide better healthcare facilities to the people of the state.

He also inspected various wards of the Civil Hospital, including the maternity ward and the de-addiction centre. He talked to patients who had come for treatment and listened to their grievances. Tarn Taran and Khadoor Sahib MLAs Dr Kashmir Singh Sohal and Manjinder Singh Lalpura, respectively, were also present on the occasion.

The minister was given the guard of honour by the Punjab Police contingent. Deputy Commissioner Monish Kumar, SSP Ranjit Singh Dhillon, SDM Rajnish Arora, Civil Surgeon Dr Seema and other health department officials were also present.

The Asha and Facilitators Workers Union led by Seema Sohal and the ANMs presented memorandums of their demands to the minister on his visit to the hospital.
