Two unknown armed assailants shot at a Hindu leader here late on Wednesday evening. The victim, identified as Parveen Kumar, runs an e-rickshaw agency on the Majitha road, had a narrow escape as the bullet grazed through his left shoulder. He was admitted to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital for treatment.

Though the police have registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita in this connection, officials have yet to make any breakthrough in the case. The police are scanning the footage of the CCTV cameras installed in the area to find clues about the perpetrators of the crime.

The incident occurred around 9.30 pm on Wednesday. However, it came to light when several Hindu leaders came to meet the victim and informed the media yesterday evening.

Pankaj Davesar, national president of the Hindu outfit Rashtriya Bhagwa Sena said the victim was associated with his organisation for past several years. He said Parveen was sitting at his agency office when two armed persons with covered faces arrived there. One of them entered the agency and shot at Parveen. Later, they fled from the spot on their bikes. The police have secured the CCTV footage of the suspects and efforts are on to identify them.

The entire incident was captured in the CCTV camera installed outside the agency office in which four persons were seen arriving there on two bikes. Two assailants with covered faces entered the agency while the other two stayed outside.

A senior police official supervising the investigation said the police was working on different theories and efforts were on to identify and arrest the suspects.

“The exact cause behind the incident is yet to be ascertained. It would be clear once the suspects land in the police net. We are not ruling out anything at the moment,” he said.
