In a concerted drive against the deadly synthetic kite string, the city police have confiscated a huge quantity of spools of synthetic string during the last couple of days.
“Over 1,000 rolls of Chinese string were seized from the central zone of the city police alone on Wednesday and Thursday,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police (Central) Jaspal Singh. The central zone is comprised of the areas falling under the jurisdiction of the Kotwali, Division D, Gate Hakima and Islamabad police stations here.
The police used drones to capture those involved in the illegal use of the synthetic kite string. Later, their investigations led the police to the offenders selling the dor in a clandestine manner.
ACP Jaspal Singh said as many as 550 spools of the illegal kite string were seized in Gate Hakima police station area wherein seven cases were registered against the offenders on Wednesday. He appealed to the people to use the traditional kite string rather than the illegal dor.
“We have been using drones to catch the suspects. We have also warned children and asked their parents that a case would be registered against them in case their children were found using the banned kite string,” he said.
Meanwhile, CIA staff of the city police seized 224 spools and arrested Gagandeep Singh of Vallah village in this connection. He was selling the same to his clients in a secret manner.
Similarly, Division C police also confiscated 19 gattu of the string from two persons, Yogesh Kumar and Karamjit Singh, both residents of Dashmesh Avenue located opposite Gillwali Gate area here.
In another seizure, the Sadar police seized 20 gattu from Pankaj Sharma of Patti in Tarn Taran.
