ICAR recognition for BSc Agri course at Khalsa College Amritsar

The Khalsa College Amritsar (KCA), an autonomous educational institution, has become the first college in Punjab to get recognition from the prestigious Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) for B.Sc (Honours) degree in Agriculture. A high-level team from ICAR, New Delhi, had conducted rigorous inspections recently following which the accreditation was granted.

“The college that has been awarded A+ accreditation by the University Grants Commission (UGC) has already got recognition for a period of five years (till 2029),” said Principal Dr Mehal Singh. He said the KCA is the first college in Punjab to get such recognition regarding degree in agriculture. He said that with this recognition, the value and importance of the BSc (Agriculture) course is now at par with the national and international standards.

The ICAR examined a total of eight main criteria regarding infrastructure, labs, faculty and teaching practices in which the college was found to be meeting all set standards. The accreditation will be in force till February 2029.

Head of the Department Dr Randeep Bal had recently hosted a delegation of German horticulture and viniculture experts at the college’s farms and laboratory. The college has been running several research projects on vermin composting, sustainable farm practices and natural farming.
