Amritsar, February 8
On the complaint of shopkeepers, the estate wing of the civic body on Saturday demolished the kiosk, which was installed by some persons at Pink Plaza outside Hall Gate on Friday night.
Sushant Bhatia, MC estate officer, said, “We came to know in the morning that some mischievous persons had set up a kiosk on the prime land near Pink Plaza. Our team had visited the spot and demolished the kiosk.”
According to information, a few illegal kiosks were already present on the road and there was some space for one kiosk. The encroachers arranged all material and set up the same overnight.
After getting information about it, shopkeepers complained to the estate officer and threatened to stage a protest. Thereafter, estate wing officials assured them that before the shops were opened in the market, the kiosk would be removed.
A joint team of estate wing officials and police personnel reached the spot with a ditch machine and demolished the kiosk in the presence of shopkeepers. Later, a team of the MC removed vends from Putaligarh and Kot Khalsa areas. Commuters had been complaining of regular traffic jams due to encroachments in the area. — TNS
