The police along with Municipal Corporation officials demolished the house of a drug peddler in Hargoind Avenue in the Chheharta area here today.

The 150-yard house belonged to Akashdeep Singh, alias Akash, and his brother Satwinderpal Singh, alias Satti, who have cases under the NDPS Act registered against them.

The demolition took place at Terekan Wali Gali, Hargobindpura, near Dera Radha Soami, on Sher Shah Suri Road, falling under the jurisdiction of the Chheharta police station.

Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, Commissioner of Police (CP), said Akashdeep Singh had two drug cases in Chheharta, while four cases were registered against Satwinderpal Singh. Both brothers had a common case registered in October 2024 wherein the police had recovered nearly 4 kg of contraband from their possession, said the CP

Both smugglers were lodged in the Amritsar Central Jail. Bhullar said illegal properties of other drug smugglers were also being verified and more such action would be taken in the future.

The CP, while sharing data of seizures in the city during an anti-drug operation this year, said so far, 1,393 cases under the NDPS Act were registered, and 2,545 accused arrested. He said large quantities of contraband, including 268.236 kg of heroin, 35.646 kg of opium, 325.577 kg of narcotic powder, Rs 2.95 crore drug money, besides 117 vehicles used for smuggling drugs, had been seized.
