Amritsar: In its drive against bootlegging, the rural police busted an illegal running still from Jalal village here on Sunday and arrested the accused, identified as Keval Singh. The police also recovered 30 kg of lahan and 6 litres of illicit liquor from the spot. The rural police in a statement issued here on Monday said a total of 16 cases were registered on Sunday and 10 bootleggers were nabbed during the raids. The police seized 109 litres of illicit liquor and 1,630 kg of lahan from their possession. During a search operation, the police also registered four cases and nabbed three persons. Besides, 13 litres of illicit liquor, 400 kg of lahan and 200 sedative pills were also recovered. SSP Dhruv Dahiya said in the past one month, the police registered 509 cases and arrested 219 persons. It seized 6,083 litres of illicit liquor, 22,095 kg of lahan and 16 illegal stills in total. TNS
Fans, CPUs stolen from school
Amritsar: Unidentified persons committed a robbery at Government High School at Dayal Bharang village here on the intervening night of August 29 and 30. They decamped with an LED, ceiling fans, CPUs, computer keyboard, mouse and other accessories. School principal Meenakshi Dhariwal told the police that on Sunday, she got a call from school chairman Gurmej Singh that a CPU and a sharp-edged weapon were found outside the school. She said she informed the staff and the village sarpanch. She said they checked the entire school and found that other than the computer lab, the miscreants also broke the locks of the mess and the sports and art rooms but nothing was missing from there. The police have registered a case under Sections 457 and 380, IPC, in this regard. . TNS
