Amritsar: Immigration firm owner, staff booked for fraud

The Ranjit Avenue police have booked a woman travel agent among six persons for allegedly defrauding a local resident on the pretext of sending her daughter to Canada. The accused were identified as Gurbinder Kaur, Rajvir Singh, Gurpreet Singh and Amrik Singh, all residents of Gunuwal Road, Jandiala Guru, Vishal and Jarnail Singh.

The complainant, Sarabjit Kaur of Bhangwa village, alleged that they duped her of Rs 21.27 lakh for sending her daughter Hardish Kaur to Canada. The complaint was lodged with the police in March, while an FIR was registered on Sunday under Sections 420 and 120-B of the IPC and Section 13 of the Punjab Travel Professional Regulation Act at Ranjit Avenue police station here.

She alleged that the accused used to run an immigration consultancy firm in the name of VISA Vision Immigration Services in B-block of Ranjit Avenue. The probe was carried out by the Punjab Bureau of Investigations, Special Crime. After the inquiry, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigations), Ravinder Pal Singh Sandhu, recommended registration of an FIR after finding prima facie evidence against them.

Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar ordered the filing of the FIR. Further investigations are in progress, said Robin Hans, SHO, Ranjit Avenue police station.
