The district Health Department has initiated a programme under which it will provide the facility of Hepatitis C diagnosis to Central Jail inmates.
Health officials said now, there would be no need to take the prisoners to the Civil Hospital for Hepatitis C diagnosis and treatment.
Dr Prabhdeep Kaur Johal, a health official, said diagnosis and treatment of Hepatitis C would be done at the jail dispensary and arrangements for it had been made. She said camps are being organised for screening of hepatitis patients.
The health officials added that as the disease can be communicated from one person to another, the government has come with the programme.
