INTUC Conference at Ranjit Avenue

Amritsar: Members of the MES Civil and Employees’ Union and the Safai Karamchari Mazdoor Union MCA organised a conference of the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) at Ranjit Avenue here on Sunday. Dr. Subhash Sharma, state president of the INTUC, presided over the conference. Dr G Sanjeeva Reddy, national president of the union, was the chief guest. MLA Dr Raj Kumar Verka, who is also the Chairman, Ware Housing Corporation, also attended the event. He said all demands of state government employees, including minimum wages, would be addressed soon. In his address, Dr Reddy flayed the Centre and said it had failed to control the rising prices of essential commodities. He said the Union Government had also failed addressed various issues such as unemployment and amendment to labour laws. TNS

Intoxicants seized from inmate

Amritsar: The Central jail authorities seized intoxicants, including 43 sedative pills, and two smartphones from an inmate, identified as Ramandeep Singh of Kotla Tarkhana village, during a checking here on Saturday. Besides Ramandeep, the police have also booked Manpreet Singh Manu of Nathuana village, who was released from the jail. Manu is yet to be arrested. Gurbachan Singh, Assistant Superintendent, Central Jail, said during investigation, Ramandeep said he had bought the intoxicants from Manpreet. A case under Sections 21, 22, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act and Sections 42 and 52-A of the Prisons Act has been registered against them. TNS

Rs 25,000 looted at gunpoint

Tarn Taran: Four armed men looted Rs25,000 at gunpoint from a patrol pump near Thakarpura village, 30 km from here, on Saturday. Mandip Singh, an employee at the petrol pump, told the police that four persons came to the petrol pump and looted Rs25,000 at gunpoint. He said they also took away the cellphone of an employee. He said the suspects threatened them to kill if they resisted. A case under Section379-B of the IPC has been registered. oc
