Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday said security agencies had secured IP addresses of those behind a series of bomb threats to the Golden Temple and that they would be nabbed soon.

The CM said this following a meeting with Shiromani Gurdwara Management Committee (SGPC) Harjinder Singh Dhami here.

This was the first visit of Mann to the shrine since July 14, the day the SGPC received the first email threatening to blow up the Golden Temple.

The Sikh body, which looks after the shrine, had received at least eight threat messages, spurring security agencies into action.

The CM’s visit to the shrine has come a day after Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in the city received a similar threat, this time through a letter.

Earlier, the police had rounded up a software engineer from Haryana’s Faridabad for questioning in the case. So far, the police have not disclosed details of those behind the threats to the shrine.

During the meeting with Dhami, the CM was told that the content of the mails received by the SGPC differed. He asserted that security agencies were waiting for confirmation of IP addresses.

“Exemplary action will be taken against the mischievous elements,” he said, adding that the police had already identified the culprits.

“Details will be shared once scientific verification is done,” he said ensuring that the case would be thoroughly investigated and no casual approach would be shown in this regard.

He also asked the SGPC to share details, if any.

Urging pilgrims not to panic, Mann said the Punjab Police were fully alert and capable of handling such matters.

During the meeting with Dhami, Mann was asked as to why he did not visit the shrine early. Responding to it, the CM said the Assembly session was underway so he could not come.
