He was arrested by the Counter Intelligence wing of the Amritsar police with a hand grenade from near Taran Wala Pul here yesterday. With his arrest, the police had claimed to have averted a possible terror attack in the state.

According to the police, CI teams received an intelligence input that a foreign-based individual, identified as Sehlam, who is working for Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI, along with his cousin Jaiveer Tyagi was planning to target government installations through terror attacks in various cities to disturb peace and harmony in the state.

He had also retrieved the consignment of the hand grenade from Attari area and was waiting for his other accomplices near Taran Wala Pul here to commit a major crime. Following this, the CI team acted swiftly and nabbed Tyagi with the hand grenade.

Tyagi has been living in Ludhiana for the last 15 years and was in contact with Sehlam through encrypted messaging apps. Sehlam was in touch with Pakistan-based anti-national entities and gangsters-turned-terrorists based in Canada and the US.

The CI has registered a case under Section 25 of the Arms Act, Sections 3, 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act, and sections 61(2) and 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against him at the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) police station here.
