Jashanpreet Singh, a first-year student of Khalsa College here, has set a record of sorts by winning gold medal in the 70 kilo category for the third consecutive year in the Senior State Boxing Championship held in Jalandhar recently.

Jashan had earlier won gold in the Senior State Boxing Championship held in Jalandhar in 2022 and in Abohar in 2023. Being trained by boxing coach Baljinder Singh at Khalsa College Senior School here, Jashan has also won medals in senior national boxing championships.

Coach Baljinder Singh said, “Jashan had won bronze in the last two senior national championships. This time we are hopeful of him winning gold in the senior national games scheduled to be held at Rae Bareilly.”

Born in a family of marginal farmers, Jashan said, “I want to win gold for my country in the 2028 Olympics.” He said at present, he is focusing on improving his game with hard work and dedication.

Talking about sports talent in rural areas, he said, “We have so many children who can shine at the international level only if they get better training and facilities.” He said he could manage study till now just because of his game. “The college is very supportive and the teachers and the coaches always push us to work harder,” he said.
