Amritsar, March 1
Lovedeep Singh, who was arrested for abduction and killing of a teen, made a ransom call only to hoodwink the police and family members of the deceased, the police said.
“The girl had turned down his marriage proposal,” said investigating officer Robin Hans. The youth had planned the murder a week ago, the official added.
The police have also arrested Lovedeep’s father Sukhchain Singh and his friend Sartaz Singh, whose revolver and car were used in the crime.
As per information, Lovedeep called up Anmol from his friend’s phone and requested her to meet him. The girl was pursuing a course in a salon in the Mall road area. The two were friends in the past.
The police said Anmol came to meet him and alighted from the bus in the Ranjit Avenue area.
The accused then picked her up and drove towards the Loharaka road area, where he shot her and dumped her body at an under-construction house in a colony on Wednesday. The body was recovered yesterday.
The investigating officer said the accused called up the victim’s family from her phone and demanded Rs 20 lakh minutes before killing her. Later, he threw her mobile phone on the way. However, the phone was located by a vegetable vendor. When he got a call from the family, he asked them to take the phone. “The phone analysis led the police to Lovedeep,” he added.
