Prof Karamjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Guru Nanak Dev University, today invited suggestions from Senate members as he chaired the first meeting post his appointment.

Stressing on increasing employability of the university students, he said by making higher education job-oriented, we can provide our students with career security.

Before the commencement of the meeting, a minute’s silence was observed to pay tributes to former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and other eminent personalities, who passed away recently.

Speaking on artificial intelligence, Dr Karamjit Singh Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had announced the establishment of ‘Surjit Patar Centre for Ethical AI’.

Prof Karamjit stressed the need for employment-oriented degrees that directly link education with employability and called for making online education more practical and application-focused as the need of the hour. “Bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-life implementation, and designing new courses to enhance job prospects will be our top priorities,” he said. In addition, he stressed on promoting Punjabi language in the era of globalisation.

He appealed to the Senate members to give their suggestions keeping in mind the changing times.
