“As part of this campaign, the DLSA has set a target of planting 20,000 trees across various locations in the district. Stakeholders from the law faculty, judicial officers, bar associations, advocates, judicial staff and NGOs working in the environmental sector have been involved and encouraged to contribute by planting the maximum number of trees possible. The general public should also actively participate in this noble cause,” Justice Grewal said.

He highlighted the importance of tree plantation to maintain a green environment, protect people from numerous diseases and provide clean air and oxygen, especially during the extreme summer heat.

“Tree plantation is significant as it ensures that the green cover increases,” he said. “We must plant and nurture trees diligently, as they serve as a natural barrier against global warming, floods, droughts and other environmental challenges. Protecting the environment requires a collective effort from all sections of society. We must come together to safeguard our planet,” he added.

As part of this drive, Amardeep Singh Bains, Secretary of the DLSA, distributed saplings of fruit-bearing and shady trees to members of the District Bar Association, executive members of the Bar, advocates, panel advocates, legal aid defence counsels, judicial staff and the general public. Advocates from Baba Bakala Sahib also participated in the campaign by planting trees in their respective sub-divisions.
