Amritsar: NCC cadets of BBK DAV Collegiate School here observed Kargil Vijay Diwas to commemorate India’s victory over Pakistan in the Kargil War (1999). The school cadets of First Punjab Girls Battalion NCC, Amritsar, participated in a poster-making competition to pay homage to the martyrs of the battle and celebrated their heroism. Principal Dr Pushpinder Walia extolled the virtues of the legendary heroes of the war and motivated the cadets to follow their exemplary patriotic spirit. She also hailed the persistent efforts of the NCC wing of the school. On the occasion, Lt (Dr) Amandeep Kaur and Akshika Aneja marked their presence and successfully conducted the event. Co-ordinator Dr Shelly Jaggi, Prof Shaifali and Mr Ashok Malhotra, in-charge Collegiate School, also congratulated the cadets.

Students shine in competitive exams

Three students of DAV Public School, Lawrence Road, qualified for the National Institute of Fashion Technology and one made it to both NIFT and National institute of Design, where only 444 seats are available for students from across the country. Nandini Jain of Class XII (humanities) made the school proud by securing an All-India Rank of 199 in the National Institute of Design and an All-India Rank of 331 in the merit list for National Institute of Fashion Technology. Riddhi Aggarwal of Class XII (humanities) also added another feather to her cap by acquiring an All-India Rank of 99 in the National Institute of Fashion Technology. Smiley Soni also of Class XII (humanities) bagged an All-India Rank of 716 in the National Institute of Fashion Technology.

Festival of Teej celebrated

The Rabindra Nath Tagore Cultural and Literary Club of Goodwill School celebrated Teej festival with great fervor, joy and enthusiasm. Different activities relating to Punjabi culture such as folk dance giddha, rangoli and henna designing competitions were conducted for junior and senior groups. In mehndi competition, Gurnoorpreet Kaur from junior group and Navpreet Kaur from senior group won the first positions. In rangoli, Amninder Singh from group junior and Sukhchain Singh from senior group were declared the winners. A team of senior group, led by captain Harmeen Kaur of Class VIII, won the giddha competition. Director Principal Jasbinder Kaur congratulated the winners.

School honours board performers

The Senior Study School felicitated its meritorious students of CBSE Class X and XII board exams. Principal Upasana Mehra said students who bagged top positions in the district in the exams were felicitated in the school. Sparsh, a student of Class X, scored 99.6 per cent marks and bagged the first position in the school in CBSE Class X. She is the city topper, second in Punjab and third in nation. Lasya Sandhu and Harmanjit Singh topped the school with a brilliant score of 98.6 per cent marks in non-medical stream. The Ram Rakha Mal Kapoor Trust initiated a merit award for the Senior Study II students in the name of their mother Uma Kapoor. The Kapoor family gave a cheque of Rs 5,000 each and a trophy to all six toppers of this year. He gave away a special trophy to Sparsh for being the city topper in CBSE 2022 exams. The occasion was attended by GNDU Vice-Chancellor Dr Jaspal Singh Sandhu and his daughter Lasya Sandhu was one of the school toppers.

Tree plantation drive

The cadets of NCC Army wing of DAV College conducted a plantation drive in the college ground. On the occasion, Group Captain Manoj Kumar Vats of 2 PB Air Squadron NCC also took a pledge from the students to protect the saplings. He said trees and plants hold an important place in their lives. They maintain the seasonal cycle on the earth. To keep the seasonal cycle balanced, it is necessary to plant more and more trees and protect them. Prof Sanjeev Dutta, ANO Flying Officer of the college, said, “We should protect the saplings like children till they become trees. One tree is capable of saving hundreds of lives.” Sukhchain, Gulmohar, Amaltas and Peepal trees were also planted during this period. Cadet Madhav, Cadet Krishna and Cadet Manav were present during the event.

Job placement drive at GGI

Students of Bachelor of Tourism and Travel Management at the Global Group of Institutes (GGI) were placed in various companies engaged in running airlines, hotel and restaurant chains and managing vacations and other merchandising enterprises. In the recently held job placement drive, the students from the department of BTTM made their mark. Atul Kumar Sachdeva of the department has been placed in ground staff operation at Berlin Airport, West Germany, and Simarpreet Singh has been selected as Assistant Manager at McDonald’s Ontario, Canada. Dr Akashdeep Singh Chandi, Vice-Chairman, while congratulating the students selected in various companies said hard work put in by the faculty of the department in preparing students for the needs of the travel and tourism industry is appreciable.

Meritorious students felicitated

Tarn Taran: Meritorious students of Guru Amar Das Adarsh Institute, Goindwal Sahib, were honoured by Khadoor Sahib MLA Manjinder Singh Lalpura at a function organised in the institute complex. While interacting with the meritorious students of Classes X and XII, he exhorted them to be more dedicated to achieve their target in their life. On the occasion, the parents of the meritorious students were also invited. The students were given trophies by the MLA. Jaspal Singh Randhawa, chairperson, presented a vote of thanks and Principal Manisha Sood presented the annual progress report of the institution. /OC
