Amritsar: Khalsa College, Amritsar, has been awarded A+ grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore. A peer team comprising Dr Jamuna Duvvru, former vice-chancellor, Padmavati Mahila Vishvavidyalya (Tirupti, Andhra Pradesh) as chairperson; Dr G Arun Maiya, dean, Manipal College of Health Professions (Karnataka) as member coordinator; and Dr Prashanka Kumar Patra, former principal, College of Engineering & Technology (Bhubaneswar, Odisha) as member; visited the college for assessment of various facilities. The team assessed the performance of the college on seven criteria — including curricular aspects, teaching, learning and evaluation, research and consultancy, infrastructure, student support and progression, governance and leadership and best practices. Principal Mehal Singh said the college excelled in all parameters and was awarded overall A+ grade.

Amritsar Group of Colleges

To commemorate World Cancer Day, the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Amritsar Group of Colleges organised a seminar on February 2. The guest speaker, Dr Sahil Batra (MDS) CHC Manawala, gave invaluable insights on cancer prevention and treatment. He also raised awareness on tobacco use and its link to cancer, sharing the government’s strategic plans for control on tobacco consumptiohn and shedding light on measures to curb the significant risk factor. Principal Gaurav Tejpal said, “Empowering our students with knowledge about cancer prevention is pivotal. Together, as a community, we contribute to the global fight against the formidable adversary.” The seminar served as an instrumental platform for disseminating knowledge and fostering a sense of responsibility in the fight against cancer.

Govt Senior Secondary School Girls

Observing National Road Safety Month, 2024, from January 15 to February 14, SI Daljit, in-charge of Traffic Education Cell, and his team, HC Salwant Singh and Lovepreet Kaur, constable, conducted a seminar on traffic at Government Senior Secondary School Girls, Shivala. They urged the students to always wear a helmet or seat belt while driving and follow traffic rules.The students were made aware about road accidents, under-age driving and drug addiction. A meeting was held with auto drivers at the bus stand regarding traffic rules and regulations.

Universal Academy

A good luck programme was organised at Universal Academy, Tarn Taran, on Saturday for Class X students. The ceremony was held to wish for the bright future of the students, wherein various activities and competitions were organised for them. Reminiscing the happy moments, school head Jasbir Kaur congratulated the students and encouraged them to work hard and make their parents proud. On the occasion, the school management extended best wishes to the students. The function ended with the students capturing memorable moments with their friends and teachers.

National Institute of Technology

Jalandhar: The girls cricket team of Dr BR Ambedkar National Institute of Technology (NIT) brought laurels by clinching the gold medal in the All India Inter-NIT Cricket (Girls) Tournament held at NIT, Rourkela, recently. The team defeated NIT Surat in the finals by 14 runs in a nail-biting finish. A total of 16 teams of NITs from across the country participated in the event. Vandana Sah received the trophy for best player while Devshree Singh and Vasudha Vaid (captain) scored the highest runs in the tournament. Director Binod Kumar Kanaujia congratulated the winners. The team was welcomed to the campus by Anish Sachdeva (Dean Students Welfare), Ajay Bansal (registrar), Dilbag Singh (ICE department) and Dr GS Dhaliwal (director, sports).

Doaba College

Gems Doaba College Alumini Association organised an online seminar ‘Value of education in life’ with Lord Swraj Paul, renowned alumus-member of the House of Lords, United Kingdom. He was welcomed by Dr Pardeep Bhandari, principal, Dr Avinash Bawa and Dr Suresh Mago, event co-ordinators, faculty members and students. The principal discussed the accomplishments of Lord Swraj Paul. Lord Paul recalled his experiences in Doaba College and applauded the faculty members. He emphasised the learning milestones of his life, the journey of becoming a business tycoon, beginning from his home to Doaba College, MIT, and Harvard to becoming the chancellor of a university.

Eklavya School

To enhance the skills of writing and to enrich the vocabulary of students, Eklavya School conducted word writing for UKG Class. The students made words through various activities such as make your own words with the help of letters, and complete the words by looking at pictures. Chairman JK Gupta exhorted the students to learn the importance and value of words. He appreciated the efforts of the students and wished them a bright future.

Seth Hukam Chand SD Public School

Seth Hukam Chand SD Public Sr Sec School was enthralled by a magic show organised by the Red Cross Society. The event aimed to bring joy and wonder to students of classes I to VIII. Principal Priyanka Sharma appreciated the efforts of the society and added that this initiative not only brought joy to the students but also served as a gentle reminder of the importance of kindness and humanitarian values.

State Public School

State Public School, Jalandhar Cantt, organised a reading activity for Kindergarten students. The motive of the activity was to make the students aware about letters, sounds and its usage. The mentors aimed to inculcate the instinct of reading and recognition of words in the students. President Dr Narotam Singh, Dr Gagandeep Kaur (vice-president), and Savina Bahl (principal), were happy to see the students dip in the ocean of reading.
