Amritsar, July 18

Residents of village Khankot in ward number 32 of the Amritsar Municipal Corporation are at the receiving end because of the water and sewer projects that are still incomplete. Roads and streets in the village were dug up for laying sewer lines. With the recent spell of rain, all the pits and trenches are filled with rainwater aggravating problems for the people. The residents of Khankot and adjoining localities claimed that their movement has been affected due to the digging of roads and streets.

The residents also expressed resentment over the government and MC stopping the work mid-way.

Ranbir Singh, a local resident, said, “The previous government had approved the laying of sewer and water pipelines, besides installing streetlights. After the new government took over, work was begun two years back. All the main roads leading to the village and link roads were dug up by the contractors. Work is going on at a snail’s pace. The sewer work should be completed and roads and streets carpeted.”

“Earlier, we had dust on the roads, now we are unable to drive because the rain has made the stretch muddy. The contractors are not completing the work and it is hanging midway. The government should complete the work as soon as possible,” said Laddi, another resident.

Rajesh Madan, former councillor from ward number 32, stated that he has been visiting the MC office regularly to get the work done.
