A two-day state level conference of the Kul Hind Kisan Sabha, Punjab, began at Sant Baba Visakha Singh Dadehar Nagar in Tarn Tarn, marking a significant gathering of farmers and labourers. The event began with a flag-hoisting ceremony, led by veteran farmer leader Bhupinder Sambar, president of the Sabha.

The farmer leaders accused the state government of following in the footsteps of the Central Government. The leaders also criticised the Bhagwant Mann government in Punjab for police action at Shambu and Khanauri border where hundreds of farmers were detained and their tents uprooted using heavy machines.

The leaders warned Punjab government against trying to oppress the peaceful farmers’ movement stating that they would not tolerate it and give a befitting reply to the ruling party.

During the conference, Rajan Kasir Sagar, national president of the Kisan Sabha, highlighted the crucial role played by it in the farmers’ movement of the country. He emphasised that corporate houses, backed by governments, are gradually taking over agriculture and allied businesses, leading to farmers losing their land.

Sagar criticised the Modi government for allocating large tracts of land to corporate houses, suppressing farmers’ movements through atrocities, and demanded cancellation of the new agricultural marketing Bill, loan waivers for farmers and labourers, and implementation of a crop insurance scheme.

Various Kisan Sabha leaders expressed their views and the event concluded with a call for a joint public movement to address the issues faced by farmers and labourers.

Prominent farmer leaders including Lakhbir Singh Nizampur, Balkar Singh Valtoha, Mahabir Singh Gill, Harpal Singh Sandhawalia and others also attended the conference.
