A large number of anganwadi workers and helpers under the banner of the Anganwadi Mulazm Union, Punjab, staged a protest against the state government in favour of their demands in front of the District Administrative Complex here on Thursday.
A delegation of the workers gave a memorandum of demands to District Revenue Officer Arwinderpal Singh. They also presented their blood in phials along with the memorandum.
After initial reluctance, the District Revenue Officer received the same. Anoop Kaur, district president of the union, said, “We demand that children in the age group of three to six years be admitted to anganwadi centers, promotion for employees and monthly salaries of Rs24,000 and Rs18,000 for anganwadi workers and helpers, respectively.”
The union threatened to court arrest during a march on International Women’s Day on March 6 if their demands were not met.
