Amritsar, January 16
The committee on local bodies, constituted by the Punjab Assembly, held a meeting with officials of the municipal corporation (MC) and Amritsar Improvement Trust (AIT) in Chandigarh today. The members of the committee discussed ongoing and upcoming development projects in the holy city with officials.
MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi, chairman, committee on local bodies, chaired the meeting. Civic body officials, including Joint Commissioner Hardeep Singh, Superintending Engineer Sandeep Singh, Executive Engineer Rajeev Basal, MTPs Narinder Sharma and Meharban Singh, Estate Officer Dharminderjit Singh and others were present at the meeting. AIT Chairman Ashok Talwar and executive officers were also attended the meeting.
The issue of poor sanitation in holy city was prominently raised by committee members. They said, “Officials should coordinate with the MLAs for carrying out development works. If the solid waste management company is not working as per rules and regulations, a complete report should be prepared and sent to the committee so that action could be taken in this regard.”
The committee members asked officials to regularise illegal hotels under a scheme.
The issue of not having a permanent MC Commissioner in the civic body was also raised at the meeting. In the absence of the MC Commissioner, some decisions cannot be taken by officials.
