Maintain peace, bring culprits to justice: Manch to PM Modi
Office-bearers of the Amritsar Vikas Manch (AVM), appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to make every effort to maintain peace across the country in the wake of Pahalgam terror attack.
The AVM members condemned the incident and urged the Centre to ensure that the culprits are brought to justice.
Surinderjit Singh Bittu, president, AVM, said, “We appreciate PM Modi’s viewpoint that war is not a solution to any issue. The people of Punjab, especially from the border districts are hopeful that PM Modi will resolve the Pahalgam incident through diplomatic means.”
Principal Kulwant Singh Ankhi, patron of the AVM, said, “The border districts of Punjab were most affected in 1947, 1965, 1971 and Kargil conflict. According to national statistics, Punjab has the highest number of war widows in the country. The industrially advanced city of Amritsar faced severe devastation after the 1965 and 1971 India-Pakistan wars, as industrialists migrated to other states of the country.”
“The economy of Amritsar depends largely on tourism sector, which thrives in an environment of peace. We appeal to the PM to provide economic and social support to the affected families,” said Yogesh Kamra, general secretary of the AVM.
Manmohan Singh Brar, Dr Charanjit Singh Gumtala, Rajwinder Singh Gill, Senior Vice President and Kawaljit Singh Bhatia were also present on the occasion.
