A man identified as Kaptan Singh (35) was killed over a minor dispute in Jassonangal village falling under the Khilchian police station here yesterday. The police have booked two persons, identified as Lakhbir Singh and Nanak Singh of same village, in this connection though no arrest was made till now.

The deceased’s brother, Akashdeep Singh, told the police that on Wednesday at around 8pm, he, along with Kaptan Singh, was standing in the park when the accused also came there. During conversation, the accused got enraged over a minor issue and Lakhbir Singh slapped his brother. He said at around 10pm, they went to the house of the accused for complaining to his family about Lakhbir’s behaviour. He said Lakhbir again got angry and hit Kaptan with baseball bat on his head. He fell down and started bleeding. He was immediately rushed to hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Harjit Singh, investigating officer, said a case under Sections 302, 323, 34 of the Indian Penal Code was registered against the suspects and raids were on to arrest them. He said the accused and the victims were friends. A minor issue led to the verbal dual and ultimately death. He said further investigations were under progress.
