Man held for kidnapping son

Tarn Taran: A woman has lodged a complaint against her husband and mediator (vichola) for kidnapping her three-year-old son. Parveen Kaur, 22, who is living with her parents in Kirtowal Kalan village, said the incident took place about three weeks back, while the case was registered on Friday. The accused have been identified as Jaswant Singh of Khemkaran and Jujj Singh of Kirtowal Kalan. Investigating Officer (IO) Sub-Inspector Hardial Singh said that accused Jujj Singh abducted the child on his motorcycle along with Jaswant Singh when the child was playing in the street on December 28. Parveen Kaur was married in the year 2016 with Jaswant Singh but sharp differences developed between the couple and she started living with her parents in Kirtowal Kalan village. The IO said that accused had been booked under Section 365 of the IPC by the Harike police. He said the accused were absconding and raids were on to arrest them. OC

Free eye, health camp today

Amritsar: FICCI FLO’s city chapter will be taking off their project ‘Sambhav’ by organizing free health and eye care camp at Bua Nangli on January 17. The FLO chairperson, Meeta Mehra, said that the project aimed at spreading awareness about three types of cancer— focusing on breast cancer, cervical cancer and oral cancer care. “The first phase will have free eye care camp held under Navdrishti initiative at Bua Nangli that has been adopted by FLO Amritsar. Our mission of providing basic health and eye care at our adopted village will reach out to people of all age groups, who will be receiving free prescription eye glasses after testing, free cataract surgeries for the needy and free medicines shall be provided for basic eye care,” informed Meeta Mehra. “Our volunteers will be going door-to-door spreading awareness on three types of cancers and screening camps will be organised on scheduled dates at the village,” she added.
