Amritsar: Acting on a tip-off, the Bhindi Saida police nabbed a vehicle lifter, Lakhbir Singh of Bhindisaida, and recovered 15 bikes from him. SHO Harpal Singh said the accused used to tamper with the number plates and fabricate the registration cards and sell stolen vehicles to poor people at cheaper rates. Lakhbir was produced in court and brought on two-day police remand. More recoveries are likely to be made, Harpal said. He said probe was on to identify his accomplices. TNS

Man held with illegal pistol

Tarn Taran: The Chabal police have arrested a resident of Cheema Kalan with an illegal pistol and two cartridges near Baghiari village. The accused was arrested by the police party, led by ASI Harjinder Singh from the local CIA .The accused has been booked under Sections 25,54 and 59 of the Arms Act. OC

Live-in partner accused of rape

Tarn Taran: A 35-year-old woman, who is six-months pregnant, lodged a rape complaint against resident of Wazir Bhullar village with whom she was in a live-in relationship for the past more than three years. The accused, identified as Bikramjit Singh (22), has been booked under Section 376 of the IPC. The Goindwal Sahib police said the complainant, Kamaljit Kaur, was married to Yadwinder Singh of UP about 16 years ago and came back to her parental village Kallha and started living with Bikramjit Singh. She said Bikramjit and his family members started harassing her mentally and physically and threw her out of the house. Further probe is on. OC
