Amritsar, November 25

A married youth identified as Manga (25), resident of Makhanwindi village, was killed by several persons of the same village, when he tried to save his mother here on Friday. He succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital here on Sunday.

The police have booked five persons in this connection while no arrest has been made so far. Those booked were identified as Sukhdev Singh, Mukhtiyar Singh, Sonu, Polish and Vijay, all residents of the same village.

Aman, wife of the deceased, told the police that on Friday morning, her husband was at home, when he came to know that the suspects were thrashing his mother. She said Manga immediately rushed to the spot to rescue his mother. She alleged accused Sonu hit a datar (sharp weapon) on his head and also beat him up. When Manga fell down and they raised an alarm, the accused fled the scene, Aman said.

Manga was rushed to Government Hospital, Manawala, from where he was shifted to a private hospital in the city. He, later, succumbed to his injuries.

Amolak Singh, Jandiala Guru police station SHO said following Manga’s death, the police have registered a case under Sections 302, 148 and 149 of the IPC against the suspects. “All suspects are on run. Raids are on to nab them,” he said.
