Man posing as cop flees with mobile

An unknown person, posing as a cop, fled away with an expensive mobile phone of a local resident, Saransh Bansal. The incident took place on the circular road, near Rattan Singh Chowk.

The police have registered a case in this connection while further investigation is under way to identify him. Bansal stated to the police he was travelling in his car (PB29AB8394) when a person signalled him to stop. He said he was answering a phone call when the accused stopped him.

He said the accused introduced him as cop and asked for documents of the car. He said that the unknown person asked him to make a call to his parents as he wanted to talk to them. He said he called his father and gave his phone to him for talking. The accused asked Bansal to follow him. He said before he could understand, the accused fled away with his expensive mobile of Apple brand.

The police have registered a case under Sections 419, 420, 170 and 379 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the unidentified person in this connection.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Balwinder Singh, investigating officer and in charge of the Faizpura police post, said they were examining the CCTV cameras in the area to identify the suspect.
