Masked men open fire on shops in Fatehabad
Shops and other commercial establishments remained closed on Monday to protest against indiscriminate firing in the town last night. Shopkeepers and others said two masked armed men came to the market in the town on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday and fired indiscriminately on shops leaving shutters of several establishments damaged.
Mandeep Singh, Jagdeep Singh and other shopkeepers while addressing protesting traders on the occasion alleged that they were maltreated by the Goindwal Sahib police today when they went to police station to file complaint regarding firing on their shops. Shopkeepers said the administration and the police had failed to maintain law and order in the town. They said firing by unknown persons had become a matter of routine. They said such incidents were causing heavy loss to businesses.
Shopkeepers alleged that under the prevailing circumstances they were facing terror every moment. They said there was no police patrolling in their area during the night hours.
Inspector Prabhjit Singh, SHO, Goindwal Sahib police station, said, “The police are investigating the firing incident. Action will be taken as per the evidence. Shopkeepers have recovered six empty bullet shells from the spot.”
