Matrimonial dispute turns ugly, man opens fire at wife, in-laws family

A matrimonial dispute turned ugly when a man along with his accomplices fired at the residence of his in-laws, besides injuring his wife and her relatives in Dashmesh Nagar locality in the Mohkampura area here on Saturday.

The police have registered an FIR against five persons on charges of attempt to murder and the Arms Act in this connection. Those booked were identified as Vishal Chopra, alias Rocky, Raman Teli, Lalit Kumar, Rahul Salothtion and Jagjit Singh, alias Sunny Brar. They are yet to be arrested.

Pallavi Chopra, the complainant, alleged that she got married to Vishal Chopra around 10 years ago. She said they had two children from the marriage. The complainant said five days ago, her husband quarrelled with her and thrashed her. He inflicted sharp weapon injuries on her and threw her out of the house, the complainant said. The victim said after the incident, she came to her brother’s house.

She said the next day her husband came at her brother’s house and assaulted her mother, brother and nephew and ransacked the place. The complainant alleged that yesterday Vishal along with his accomplices again came to her brother’s house and started hurling abuses. She said Vishal fired around six gunshots at them, but she and her family escaped narrowly. Later, Vishal and his accomplices fled when the people started gathering outside the house following the ruckus created by them.

The police recovered empty shells from the spot. The Mohkampura police said raids were on to nab the suspects who were absconding from their homes since the incident. They would be arrested soon, said the police.

Suspect flees from lock-up

A man arrested in another case managed to slip from the lock-up of the Mohkampura police station in the wee hours on Sunday. He was identified as Shubham, alias Chini, a resident of the Mohkampura area. As per information, he got the lock opened on pretext of going to toilet. When he did not return, the police tried to open the toilet door. He pushed cops on duty and fled from the police station. Though the police chased him, he managed

to escape. He was arrested by the police on Saturday night and was to be produced in a court on Sunday.
