Municipal Commissioner Gulpreet Singh Aulakh held a review meeting with officials of the police and district administration as well as representatives of the Valmiki community today regarding the security and maintenance of statues of Baba Sahib Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar. During the meeting, the MC Commissioner instructed municipal officials to take preventive measures without delay.
The MC Commissioner stated that in recent days, some mischievous elements had tampered with the statue of the architect of the Constitution, Baba Sahib Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar, in Amritsar. Taking this seriously, the Municipal Corporation has installed iron grills around these statues across the city.
The MC Commissioner said that valuable suggestions were shared by the police administration and the Valmiki community today, regarding the proper upkeep and protection of these statues, and instructions have been issued for their immediate implementation. He emphasised that no negligence will be tolerated in the matter. Furthermore, the Police Commissioner has also instructed his department to boost security arrangements around these statues.
The statue of Baba Saheb Ambedkar was vandalised on Republic Day this year, causing national uproar. Similar incidents were also reported from other cities.
