Municipal Commissioner Gulpreet Singh Aulakh, along with senior officials of the civic body, conducted a field visit to the Anngarh area on Friday to assess the long-standing civic problems faced by residents. The inspection focused on the deteriorating condition of the main open drain, its damaged embankments, and the broken footbridge over the drain, which has posed a persistent threat to public safety.
Residents highlighted that garbage heaps inside the filthy drain and the crumbling embankment walls have led to frequent incidents of animals falling into the drain. The MC Commissioner directed the departments to immediately begin drain cleaning, reconstruct the footbridge, and repair the walls along the drain.
Locals expressed deep frustration, noting that even after 75 years of independence, Anngarh still lacks basic infrastructure, like footpaths. Responding to these concerns, local MLA Ajay Gupta assured the residents that an estimate for footpath construction would be prepared without delay and the tendering process would be completed soon to initiate the work.
Lighting in the area was another pressing issue. Acknowledging the shortage of proper illumination, the MLA Gupta sanctioned over two dozen LED streetlights on the spot and instructed the lighting department to install and activate them at the earliest. He also appealed to residents to refrain from dumping garbage into the drains and instead hand it over to the MC’s waste collection vehicles. Aulakh assured that detailed instructions would be issued to departments regarding drain cleaning, footbridge construction, streetlight installation, and other required works.
