MC cracks down on illegal constructions
The Municipal Town Planning wing of the Amritsar Municipal Corporation has intensified its drive against illegal constructions in the city, taking action against illegal constructions in Queens Road and New Golden Avenue areas over the last two days.
On Wednesday, the MTP Department demolished an unauthorized building structure on the Queens Road. The demolition team, led by ATP Parminder Singh and Building Inspector Manish Arora, responded to multiple public complaints and enforced the action after prior notices were ignored by the builder.
MC officials said that continuous complaints were being received regarding the illegal structure and the MTP Department had issued formal notices to halt the construction. However, the builder continued to flout the regulations. Consequently, the department had to take demolish the structure. He emphasised that no construction will be allowed without approved plans and such operations against unauthorised developments will persist throughout the city.
A day later on Thursday, another strict move followed in New Golden Avenue where an under-construction building was sealed due to lack of an approved building plan. Officials said despite several notices, the work of construction continued unabated, prompting sealing orders. The operation was led by ATP Raman Kumar and Building Inspector Rohini.
ATP Raman Kumar said the building was being constructed without the approved building plan, despite formal notices being issued by the MTP Department. The builder disregarded these notices and continued with the construction. As a result, the department sealed it and issued a strict warning that no construction should be undertaken without the approved plans.
MC Commissioner Gulpreet Singh Aulakh has issued a clear warning to the public and real estate developers. He said, “Unauthorised constructions will not be tolerated in Amritsar. We urge citizens to get proper building plans approved before beginning any project otherwise, strict legal action, including sealing and demolition, will follow.”
