Amritsar MC gets modern firefighting equipment

Cabinet Minister Om Parkash Soni, Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu and MLA Sunil Datti distributed modern fire safety equipment to employees of the Fire Safety Department of the MC during a ceremony at Maharaja Ranjit Singh Panorama in Company Bagh here on Saturday.

The equipment were purchased at a cost of Rs 1.93 crore under the Smart City Mission to upgrade the fire department to deal with emergency accidents in the city. Soni also distributed pre-school learning kits for 451 anganwadi centres in the district. The government has spent Rs 13 lakh on pre-learning kits. More than 400 anganwadi workers received the learning kits in the presence of district project officer Hardeep Kaur. She said child-friendly learning environment in anganwari centres would increase their knowledge about language, numbers, colors, animals and birds with the help of these kits.

On the occasion, Soni thanked Municipal Corporation Commissioner and Smart City CEO Komal Mittal for the work being done under the Smart City Mission to develop and modernise the city’s infrastructure. He said it was very important to upgrade yourself along with the continuous development of technology.

Mayor Karmjit Singh said under the Smart City Mission, many development works were under progress. He said that 7.5-km circular road around walled city would be developed as a smart road very soon. The tender has been floated for the construction of Smart Road.

MC Commissioner Komal Mittal said the way new buildings were being built in the city , it is very important to have modern fire safety equipment to deal with any emergency situation in these buildings. Amritsar Improvement Trust Chairman Dinesh Bassi, Additional Commissioner of MC Sandeep Rishi, councillor Vikas Soni, Nodal Officer of Amritsar Smart City Rajiv Sekhari were also present on the occasion.
