MC holds welfare fair for street vendors

The Municipal Corporation organised a special Public Welfare Fair to support street vendors and spread awareness about the PM SVANidhi Scheme. The fair was held under the directions of Municipal Commissioner Bikramjit Singh Shergill.

Assistant MC Commissioner Rajinder Sharma presided over the event, which was conducted by a team including Superintendent Satnam Singh, Lead District Manager (LDM) Arpana Sharma, City Mission Manager Jaspreet Singh, Taranpreet Kaur and Harinder Singh.

The main aim of the fair was to educate street vendors about the benefits and new updates of the PM SVANidhi Scheme. Under the scheme, vendors can get small capital loans in three stages -- Rs 15,000 as the first installment, Rs 25,000 as the second, and Rs 50,000 as the third installment. Officials explained the details of the loan process and encouraged vendors to take advantage of the chance to expand their businesses.

Assistant MC Commissioner Rajinder Sharma and LDM Arpana Sharma personally interacted with the vendors. They listened to their problems and answered questions related to loans, documentation and repayment procedures. The officials assured vendors that the administration is committed to their welfare and will continue to support them in every possible way.

The event also helped bridge the gap between the street vendor community and the municipal administration by providing a platform for direct communication. Many vendors expressed happiness and appreciation for the efforts made by the Municipal Corporation to make government welfare schemes more accessible.

Speaking on the occasion, officials said that such fairs play a key role in promoting self-reliance among small vendors and contribute to the city's inclusive development.

The Municipal Corporation has announced that similar awareness drives will be held in other parts of the city to ensure that all eligible vendors can benefit from government welfare schemes.
