The Municipal Corporation has launched a night sanitation drive across key areas of the city, focusing on high traffic and densely populated zones. The initiative, rolled out under the supervision of Municipal Commissioner Bikramjit Singh Shergill, is designed to carry out sanitation work during night hours when vehicular and pedestrian movement is minimal. Officials said the move would allow uninterrupted sweeping and garbage collection without affecting daytime commercial and public activities.

MC Commissioner Shergill said the night drive reflects the civic body's commitment to making Amritsar one of the cleanest cities in Punjab. "Our aim is to improve sanitation standards through efficient and time-sensitive cleaning operations. The cooperation of citizens is vital in maintaining this momentum," he stated.

Sanitation teams have been strategically deployed in major markets, religious places, heritage streets and tourist-centric areas to ensure maximum visibility and impact. The first phase of the drive will cover areas around heritage sites, prominent roads and marketplaces, with plans to gradually extend the initiative to residential localities based on public feedback and necessity.

The Municipal Corporation has also appealed to the residents and shopkeepers to dispose of waste responsibly and refrain from littering, particularly during late hours, to support the city's cleanliness mission.
