In a significant move to support the city’s homeless population during the harsh weather conditions, the Amritsar Municipal Corporation has strengthened its shelter facilities.

Following their instructions of Mayor Jatinder Singh Bhatia and MC Commissioner Gulpreet Singh, MC Secretary Sushant Bhatia has conducted a meeting with staff of both night shelters, including Taranpreet Kaur, Jaspreet Singh, Harinder Singh and Shelter Inspector Kamal Kumar for taking proactive steps to ensure smooth functioning and oversee management.

Located in Gol Bagh area, these shelters are equipped with 125 bed, essential amenities, including heaters, hot water for bathing, comfortable bedding, nutritious food, and clean bathrooms. The initiative aims to provide a safe and comfortable space to homeless people, ensuring their well-being during the harsh weather conditions.

“As the cold wave continues, the shelters have witnessed an increase in occupancy, offering warmth and relief to those in need. The municipal corporation urges all homeless individuals to make use of these free facilities, reaffirming its commitment to public welfare and humanitarian support,” said Sushant Bhatia, Secretary, MC.

The authorities concerned have assured of regular monitoring and improvements to maintain the shelters, besides ensuring that Amritsar’s homeless citizens receive the care and protection they deserve.
