Medical camp at central jail

Amritsar: The Amritsar Central Jail and the Department of Prison and Correctional Services in collaboration with the Department of Ayurveda organised a free ayurvedic medical camp under the mission ‘Healthy Punjab’ here. The camp was organised under the supervision of Dr Atamjit Singh Basra, District Ayurvedic Officer-cum-Drug Inspector, and Arshdeep Singh Gill, Superintendent, Amritsar Central Jail. A team of Ayurvedic Medical Officers provided free checkup and Ayurvedic pharmacies donated free medicines for sick prisoners. The camp was held at the Jail hospital and female ward and over 800 prisoners were examined at the camp. The Hindustan Parchar Sabha donated 1,217 books through Lahore Book Shop for the prison library. Arshdeep said the books would guide the prison inmates and would be useful for their knowledge and development of mental health. TNS

Two booked for fraud of  Rs 2.45L

Amritsar: A father-son duo was booked on Tuesday for duping an elderly here. The accused have been identified as Sumit Khanna and his son, Sanyam Khanna, both residents of Chitta Katra. The victim, Shamma, stated in his complaint that the accused stole his ATM card and debited Rs2,45,000 from his account. ASI Ashwani Kumar said, during preliminary investigation, it was found that the complaint used to live alone. Sanyam, used to deliver tiffin to him and gained trust of the victim who shared his ATM card pin with him. The accused withdrew Rs2.45 lakh from his account. A case under Sections 420 and 120-B, IPC, has been registered said the police. TNS

One arrested with pistol

Tarn Taran: CIA staff of local police, led by ASI Ashwani Kumar, arrested Sagar, alias Kalu, of Jaswant Singh Mohalla, and seized one .315 bore country-made pistol and two live cartridges from his possession. The accused was arrested near Palasaur drain. The ASI said a case under Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act has been registered against the accused. OC
