A bunch of standup comedians enthralled the audience of the holy city on Sunday evening.
The event Easy Evening organised by Black Dog saw popular standup comedians Sahil Shah, Atul Khatri, Anagad Raniyal, Sapan Verma and Azeem Banatwali.
They reflected upon number of social, economic, political issues as part of their presentation leaving the audience in splits.
Interacting with media, the Mumbai-based comedians talked about English language, and comedy, history of the stand-up comedy.
“We talk about a lot of issues. We have been going places under our East India Comedy. We touch day-to-day affairs of the people. Language does not matter that much, when it comes to be specific language-such as Hindi or Punjabi. Language is just a medium. Comedy remains the same,” said Sapan Verma, ace-standup comedian.
They also shared their history of trying their hands at standup comedy and eventually doing shows and adding ‘Desi Element’ to their shows.
Anagad Raniyal said, “It was motivation by parents, loved ones that trying hands at standup comedy began. One lead thing often leads to another.”
The group under their banner East India Comedy, the troop has been performing at parts of the world and had performed over thousand shows. The group has many of their videos viral on social media such as YouTube. They feel that social media provides a platform without censorship and giving social message is also relevant.
