Mid-day Meal Workers Union stages protest, demands wage hike
The Patti sub-division branch of the Mid-Day Meal Workers Union, Punjab, organised a protest in the Civil Hospital complex on Sunday to express their resentment over the government’s failure to accept their long-pending demands.
Manjit Kaur Booh of the Mid-day Meal Workers Union and Ranjit Kaur, leader of the ‘Talmel Committee’, in their respective speeches, said that they have been working at a meagre salary of Rs 3,000 for long which is not sufficient to make both ends meet. The leaders demanded Rs 12,000 as their monthly remuneration and life insurance of Rs 5 lakh to be given by the state government. The leaders expressed their opposition to extra workload except for their own task of preparing meals.
