Midday meal workers of the Valtoha block, under the banner Mid-Day Meal Workers Union, Punjab, recently organised a meeting at Gurdwara Sahib Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib, Amarkot, and discussed their demands.

Union block president Sukhwinder Kaur presided over the meeting. In her address, Kaur called for two uniforms — for warm and cold months — to be provided by the Punjab Government, and also demanded life insurance worth Rs 5 lakh for the workers. She also demanded for an increase in the monthly salary to Rs 18,000.

Sophia Khemkaran, Baljit Kaur Assal, Sukhwinder Kaur Dasuwal, Rajwinder Kaur, Sunita Kumari, and Gurpreet Kaur also addressed the gathering during the meeting. Punjab Subordinate Service Federation leader Nirmal Singh extended support to the demands of midday meal workers.

Workers raised slogan against the state government over its “attitude” towards their demands.
