Migrants, Muslims resolve differences

In consonance with the commitment of state and the police to maintain communal harmony, peace and brotherhood in society, the district peace committee comprising officials from the Police Department and local residents organised a meeting with leaders of both migrants’ and Muslim communities in Bihari colony on Monday.

Leaders of both communities resolved their differences and hugged each other.

They said some anti-social elements tried to create tension and disturb peace in the city. They said peace and prosperity of the state would not be allowed to deteriorate at any cost.

Leaders of the migrant community also announced to hold an Iftar dinner next Friday in the Bihari colony.

ADCP Prabhjot Singh Virk said the Punjab Police would not spare anyone involved in nefarious attempts to weaken social bonding among the people of the state.

Recently during the visit of Union Minister Giriraj Singh had warned the Commissioner of Police Kuldeep Singh Chahal that the police should also register a case against members of the Muslim community who had also hurled stones and bricks at migrants during a clash between them on Holi. The minister had categorically told the CP that the Ludhiana police adopted a step-motherly treatment to migrants of Bihar and UP by registering a case against them and sparing members of the other community involved in the clash. The minister had also threatened to hold a protest outside the CP’s office if action was not taken in the matter.
