A number of devotees thronged temples to offer prayers on the occasion of Mahashivratri in the city on Wednesday. Serpentine queues of devotees were seen outside temples. Langar stalls were set up. The old temples in the city, including Shivalaya Virbhan and Bhaiyyan Da Shivalaya, saw long queues of devotees right since dawn.
Due to the langar being offered on roadsides, traffic jams were seen on Shivala, Hussainpura, outside Hall Gate, MM Malviya, Majitha, Batala and other roads of the city.
Amritsar Central constituency MLA Dr Ajay Gupta and Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney visited the Kushth (leprosy) Ashram on Jhabal Road on the occasion where they paid obeisance at the temple and presented an e-rickshaw to the Ashram.
MLA Dr Gupta listened to the problems of the inmates of the ashram and assured that their demands would be resolved on priority basis. DC Sawhney said, “With this e-rickshaw, they will have the facility to move from one place to another in the city. ”
The Kushth Ashram inmates brought to the notice of the DC the sewage problem because of which water accumulates inside the ashram during the rainy season, resulting in difficulties for the people.
