In a global effort headed by Ashvinder Kundan Singh, over 20 Sikhs scholars and educators from around the world, including renowned Sikh artistes Onkar Singh, Kanwar Singh and Harsimran Kaur, have come together to create a mobile application to promote and educate people on the Mool Mantar.

The Mool Mantar is a succinct doctrinal statement of Sikhism. It consists of 12 words in the Punjabi language written in Gurmukhi script. It summarises the essential teaching of Guru Nanak. It will be called Nanak Time and the team has been working for over the past one year to put together the mobile application, which is a first-of-its-kind.

The Singapore-based entrepreneur, Ashvinder Kundan Singh, is the brain behind SikhWiki.org, a wikipedia for Sikh information that draws over 10,000 visitors daily, and Turbanizer, a Sikh turban visualisation app that has “turbanized” over 1 crore people globally. Singh was in Amritsar to offer prayers at Kartarpur Sahib, Sultanpur Lodhi and Harmandir Sahib before launching the application.

“Nanak Time is a mobile app that helps people to learn and apply Mool Mantar in their life. Today’s youngsters do not just want to recite gurbani, they want to know how to apply it in their life. We wanted to create an app for the world to enjoy and be inspired by Guru Nanak’s divine message. In today’s world, it’s needed,” said Ashvinder. The 550th year of Guru Nanak’s birth is coinciding with the application launch. Ashvinder Singh said Nanak Time would leverage the power of Artificial Intelligence. “Nanak Time will help find time in your day to apply gurbani concepts and help you reflect on it using a smart journaling platform.” The application has the rendition Mool Mantar, with a detailed word-to-word explanation of the meaning of the mantar. The complete rendition is of over 36-minute-long duration. The app is available for pre-release access on NanakTime.com.

Gunbir Singh, president of NGO Dilbir Foundation, who facilitated a meeting between Ashvinder Kundan Singh and SGPC chief secretary Dr Roop Singh regarding the mobile application launch, said, “Guru Nanak’s message is universal to one and all. Connecting the youth of today, especially to this unique message in this era of disruptive media, is indeed a challenge that can be addressed only if we ride this popular medium to convey this spiritual balm to life. The methodology adopted is unique and simple, and the application current to the times.”
