An explosion-like sound heard outside Gumtala police chowki here on Thursday night lead to panic in the area.
Though heavy police force was rushed to the spot, police authorities denied it was a blast.
Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said it was apparently an explosion in the radiator of car belonging to a cop.
"Because of previous instances, people thought it was a bomb blast, which is not the case," he said.
The incident was reported at around 8pm.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (West) Shiv Darshan Singh in a video message released to the media said chowki incharge ASI Harjinder Singh was working in the chowki when he heard a blast-like sound.
During examination it was found that the radiator of a car belonging to ASI Tejinder Singh was damaged that apparently led to the sound. The windshield of the car was also damaged.
He denied it being a blast.
This is the ninth such incident at a police establishment in Punjab in the past one and a half month.
