Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan event set to be held on Nov 18
To promote drug-free India with 10K T-shirts, caps for youth; key political figures to attend
A national-level event for the “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan” will be organised in Amritsar on November 18, with the aim of fostering a drug-free India. As part of the initiative, 10,000 T-shirts and caps would be distributed to youth participants during the event to urge their involvement in the cause.
Ahead of the event, a preparatory state-level meeting was held at Punjab Bhawan in Chandigarh, chaired by Chief Secretary of Punjab, KAP Sinha and led by Sukhwinder Singh Bindra, member of the National Institute of Social Defence (NISD) and special member of the National Campaign Against Drug Abuse (NCCDR), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
The meeting was focused on ensuring the smooth and successful organisation of the upcoming national event. Bindra announced thousands of youth and students would participate in this mega event, united in the mission to make Punjab a drug-free state. He said Union Minister Dr Virendra Kumar and the Governor of Punjab, Gulab Chand Kataria, would be the chief guests of the programme.
Bindra stressed the event would significantly strengthen the fight against drug abuse and encourage active community participation across the state. This will follow a major anti-drug event that took place earlier on January 11 at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) in Ludhiana.
Speaking about the event’s significance, Bindra noted the presence of Union Minister Dr Virendra Kumar would serve as an inspiration to the people of Amritsar and further energise the nationwide “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan” campaign.
He emphasised drug addiction not only harms individuals but destroys families, whereas the campaign offers youth the chance to engage in positive activities, including sports, to move forward in life.
Bindra expressed confidence under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, India would soon be free from the scourge of drug addiction.
During the meeting, key central government delegates from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, including Joint Secretary Latha Ganapathy and IAS officer Parveen Thind, also provided their valuable insights.
