To fulfill the objectives of the drug de-addiction campaign in the state and to create maximum public awareness, village and city defence committees are being formed which will work against drug distribution and reach out to people through door-to-door campaign.
Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney, while reviewing the work of constitution of defence committees in villages today, said that coordinators of the Nasha Mukti Yatra, supposed to be held on September 10, should form the committees in their respective villages and wards by then. The DC emphasised that police investigation of the persons joining the committee must be done so that it can be known that their record is clean.
The DC said that members of these defence committees will also be issued identity cards by the government. She said that before holding a meeting in their constituency, each defence committee must arrange for an announcer so that people can participate in these committees.
Sonia Mann, in-charge of Nasha Mukti Morcha, Majha zone and in-charge of Rajasansi, said that rising above party affiliations, prominent personalities should be included in these committees and it should be selected in a fair manner.
Sonia Mann said that the Village Defence Committees and Ward Defence Committees will be formed by a four-member panel including the village Sarpanch or ward councillor, a member of the ‘War on Drugs’ campaign, a BDPO or a representative of the BDPO and a SHO or a representative of the SHO.
