NCC cadets embark on 700-km cycle rally in honour of freedom fighters
As part of Republic Day celebrations and to commemorate the sacrifices of freedom fighters and bravehearts, the cadets of NCC Directorate, PHHP&C (Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh), have undertaken a cycle rally from Hussainiwala to Delhi. The expedition began on January 7 and will culminate on January 20.
Today on Day 4, the NCC cycle rally reached here and was flagged off from the iconic Golden Gate of Amritsar by Maj General Kartik C Seshadri, VSM, GOC, Panther Division, along with Brigadier Harcharan Singh (retd), VSM, Olympic legend and Arjuna awardee. Brigadier Kulpreet Singh Bawa, NCC Group Commander, Amritsar, presented mementoes to the dignitaries.
The cycle rally is led by Col Sombir Dabbas and Havildar Paramjit Singh. As many as 15 cyclists, including six girl and six boy cadets, cycled to Beas on January 10, covering 45 km. Before taking off from the Golden Gate, the cadets paid homage at the Saragarhi Memorial. Earlier on January 8, the cyclists visited the Golden Temple and also paid homage to the martyrs of Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
On the morning of January 9, the cadets laid wreaths at the Punjab State War Heroes Memorial here and witnessed the breath-taking retreat ceremony at the Attari-Wagah border in the evening. The cyclists will cover approximately 700 km touching the important battlefields of Hussainiwala, Khemkaran, memorials of freedom fighters at Jallianwala Bagh, Jang-e-Azadi Memorial at Kartarpur, memorial at Khatar Kalan and others to finally reach the DG NCC camp at Gurugram on January 20 where they would be felicitated by the Director General of NCC.
