Amritsar, July 22

The police arrested a Nihang Sikh for allegedly attacking a migrant ragpicker with sharp weapons in the Heritage Street near Golden Temple while alleging that he was consuming tobacco. The incident occurred yesterday.

Shanker, who originally hailed from Bihar, was a ragpicker and used to sleep on the footpath in Heritage Street. He told the police that the accused used to threaten him earlier also. He told them that he did not consume tobacco, still they attacked him near Raghunath Mandir with sharp weapons yesterday and fled away.

The police later identified the accused as Pargat Singh who was arrested and later released on bail. The police also booked his unknown accomplice in the case.
